US U-17's go to Uruguay, and get hammered...
So the young guns are down in Uruguay right now for a few matches and a little tournament. In their first match they lost 6-1. That is right, 6-1. Two Americans were sent off, Uruguay scored four penalties and took 24 shots with keeper Josh Lambo saving zero. A pitiful display but I guess after an right hour flight, you've got to give the kids a break. Being down two goals in the first sixteen minutes is tough for any team. Hopefully the guys will be able to recover before the tournament starts on the 10th where they'll face Peru, Argentina and New Zealand.
USA: 1-Josh Lambo; 2-Sheanon Williams (12-Jose Altimorano,75), 3-Mykell Bates, 4-Howard Turk (21-Lonnie Carter, 64), 5-Matthew Uy; 6-Danny Wenzel, 8-Jared Jeffrey (capt.), 10-Danny Barrera; 9-Ellis McLoughlin, 11-Ryan Finley (19-Brendan King, 46), 15-Greg Garza (7-Axel Levy, 46)
Subs not used: 13-Jesse Paredes, 14-Amobi Okugo, 16-Kirk Urso, 18-Zac MacMath, 22-Kofi Sarkodie
Captain Jared Jeffrey scored the lone American goal and was sent off sixteen minutes later.
Tough day at the office for these kids. Coach John Hackworth has his work cut out!
