In 1977 the USSR won the first FIFA World Youth Championship. This event has been played every two years since and is now called the U-20 World Cup.

- 2003 - 2nd in Group stage, lost in Quarterfinals to Brazil.
- 2005 - 1st in Group stage, lost in Quarterfinals to The Netherlands.
- 2007 - 2nd in Group stage, lost in first knock out match to Germany.
