RIP Glenn "Mooch" Myernick....1954 - 2006

US Soccer has lost a great leader today. At approximately 2:30 AM Denver time, Glenn "Mooch" Myernick passed away at a Denver hospital after never recovering from a heart attack. He had been on life support and it was determined by his doctors and family that it was time to say goodbye.

Mooch started as a player at Hartwick College in the 1970's. In 1976 he played for the US Olympic Team as they tried to qualify for the tournament. After the 1976 college season he won the Hermann Trophy as the best college soccer player. Mooch went on to play eight seasons in the NASL, the former top American division. Through his career Mooch won ten caps for the senior US National Team.

In the early 1990's Mooch started coaching with the US National youth teams. He went on to Coach the Colorado Rapids through some of their best seasons. He served as the head coach to the U-23's and as assistant to Bruce Arena through two World Cups.

Mooch's impact on American soccer can not be denied. He wasn't always out front but he always worked hard and did his best to push American soccer forward. US Soccer has lost a great coach.

Our thoughts and prayers are going out to the Myernick family today.
